Oregon International Ballet Academy continues its highly acclaimed, annual Nutcracker production! OIBA’s Nutcracker offers a unique and seamless integration of charming and joyful performances by student dancers with stunning appearances from the school’s top performers and surprise guest artists.

With original choreography co-created specifically for OIBA students by Artistic and Executive Director husband and wife team, Xuan Cheng and Ye Li, these young dancers experience not only the joy of professional performance, but also the personal growth associated with the creative process. Many students perform multiple roles in the show with most performing different roles in each performance. A number of parents also participate as party guests, forming memories of dancing with their children onstage they will cherish all their lives.

OIBA’s 2022 spring show focuses on renewal! OIBA students will star in newly choreographed works including a world premiere by Executive Director Ye Li, The Things That Remain, and top-level students will shine in classical solos within the context of a full act ballet choreographed by Artistic Director Xuan Cheng. Light and joyful, this performance will celebrate all that our students accomplished during this difficult time. Taking place at the brand new Patricia Reser Center for the Arts in Beaverton. Cultural Exchange 2024

July — August; JAPAN & CHINA!

  • China’s capital city, Beijing has a history stretching back 3,000 years!

    To kick off the cultural exchange students will join Zhi-Xing China: a U.S-China young leaders exchange program.

  • A city known for its arts and seafood cuisine, this is OIBA’s second stop with Zhi-Xing China.

    Here, students will perform in the Tianjin International Children's Culture & Art Festival!

  • China’s largest city by population, Shanghai is known as “the Paris of the East.”

    This is the third and last stop with Zhi-Xing China.

  • Located at the foot of Mt. Aso, Kumamoto is known for its onsen hot springs and is home to the famous Kumamoto Castle.

    Here, students will attend Ballet studio Casa de Arte's 20-year anniversary Gala performance!

  • In this famous city known for its skyscrapers, cultural diversity, and rich history, students will have the opportunity to tour and sit in on a rehearsal with the Hong Kong Ballet.

  • Next OIBA will travel northeast to a city known for its Cantonese cuisine and culture. Students will visit the Guangzhou Ballet and attend a masterclass.

  • In this nearby city, students will showcase their new and improved skills at the 2024 China National Youth dance competition and Gala performance.

This exchange program includes all of the classes, rehearsals, and performances of our regular summer intensives, but in a new cultural setting.
